Fernando Alonso is not only a two-time Formula 1 World Champion-Er is also a lifelong supporter of Real Madrid.
The racing legend, born in Oviedo, Spain, was discovered several times in Santiago Bernabéu and even appointed an honorary member of the club. When he suggested that Los Blancos signed a player of his greatest rival Barcelona, he naturally made headlines.
In conversation with Dazn in front of the Spanish Grand Prix, Alonso was asked a cheeky but fascinating question: “If you could sign a Barcelona player for Real Madrid, who would be?”
Smiling Alonso gave a playful and strategic answer: “I would sign Pedri for Madrid to weaken Barça. I do it on the PlayStation … and then leave it on the bench.”
The comment, which delivered a grin with a caught grin, has unprepared many. Since Barcelona Madrid has just hit La Liga, which Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup made this season, some might have expected Alonso Stars like Lamine Yamal or Raphinha, who combined 2025/26 for amazing 102 -goal contributions.
But Pedri – who returned quietly this year to his best – was of central importance from Barça’s midfield dominance, dictated the pace and controlled games in a way that produced legends such as Xavi and Iniesta. While he may not be the most striking name on the team leaf, Pedri is undoubtedly one of her most important ones.
While Alonso’s answer may have started as a joke, it reflects a deeper truth to hurt Barcelona, they take away their heartbeat.
