United head coach Ruben Amorim has also made it clear that he does not want to lose him this summer.
The Saudi chiefs were confident of making an agreement with the 30-year-old Portuguese international.
Al Hilal was ready to make an offer of £ 100 million for Fernandes, but this now looks unlikely before the summer transfer window.

Talksport understands that United has had talks with Brentford about the wing player who has a value of 50 million GBP.
Fernandes stayed with United for two years and previously made its future after its final defeat of the Europa League.
“I’ve always been honest when the club believes that it is time to separate because it wants to redeem something or whatever, it is what it is.

Fernandes’ captain at United was questioned in the past, but the midfielder was a bright light in a catastrophic season.
He scored 19 goals and 19 templates in all competitions and did not play in just three of her 60 games.
The former athlete Lisbon has won the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup since moving to Old Trafford.
Fernandes has made 290 appearances in six seasons for United and is only two goals away from reaching a century.
