Manchester United has appointed the Olympic legend Lord Sebastian Coe to manage the development of her proposed new 100,000 -Seerer Stadium – the core of the Old Trafford Regeneration Project.
Coe, a twice Olympic gold medalist and current President of World Athletics, has been appointed chairman of the Mayor’s Development Society (MDC), the new body that monitors the transformation of the area around Old Trafford.
The project, which is expected to comprise for a decade, not only aims to deliver a state-of-the-art stadium.

The club hopes to complete the project within five to six years and ultimately organize the final of the Women’s World Cup 2035 at the new event location.
Lord Coe, who previously headed the Task Force of the Old Trafford Regeneration, who examined the initial feasibility of the stadium and the broader development – and is known to be the chairman of London’s successful Olympic and Paralympic offer in 2012 that he was “pleased” to continue working on the initiative.
“Throughout my career, I saw the difference that the sporty regeneration can cause strong communities and as a catalyst for economic growth,” said Coe. “It was certainly for the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in London – and now I think the moment has come from Greater Manchester.”
“This is about so much more than just a stadium. It is about listening and listening to them with residents a lively, integrative district with high-quality apartments, green rooms, first-class leisure and educational institutions and improved transport connections.”
The CEO of United, Omar Berrada, praised the appointment: “Lord Coes proven leadership and track record in the implementation of transformation projects will be invaluable if we work together to put our collective vision into reality.”
