More than two decades after the first blow to the cinemas and heard hearts all over the world, a continuation of Bend it like Beckham is officially under development.
The director Gurinder Chadha has confirmed that a episode of the 2002 Cult Football Classic-with the goal of starting it in 2027 to mark both the 25th anniversary of the film and the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
The original that Parminder Nagra and Keira Knightley played followed the story of Jess and Jules – two teenagers who resisted cultural and social norms to pursue their love of football. With laughter, tears, family drama and triumphant moments, it quickly became one of the most popular football films ever.
Now Chadha says that time feels right to return to this world.
“I thought she was a fish?” belongs to the delivery hall of the line 🤌 🤌

“A lot has changed since the original film,” she told that BBC. “But I think people still don’t believe that women should play football. There are people who still don’t take it seriously.”
In addition, she added that the explosion of interest in women’s football, especially after England had won the Euro 2025, had made the idea of a sequel particularly relevant.
While the shape is still to be decided – whether a film or television series – hopes to bring some of the original cast back and tease the possibility of Kameen from current English international.
“I’m pretty sure everyone wants to come back,” she said. “Everything depends on the script and if the original line -up likes it. I work very hard to ensure that every character I bring back has a decent bow.”
And while David Beckham may no longer be the figurehead of English football, the spirit of history continues. How do you call it this time? Bend it like Kelly? Time will say.
