This was a time of great success for Arsenal – Dennis Bergkamp and David Platt were added to the squad in summer, while Arsene Wenger was appointed manager in 1996 and completely changed it.

So when it was transferred from Monaco in France International Petit, then from Monaco: Would you like to fight the relegation or the challenge for the Premier League title, was it a child’s play?

What happened?

He was in North London and spoke to the chairman of Spurs, Alan Sugar, about the move to the capital. Arsenal heard from the meeting and got nothing to sign for nothing until he had heard at least Wenger Pitch about this new era that wanted to develop along the street.

That seemed fair enough when you consider that Wenger was the man who brought him in Monaco, so Petit Tottenham asked bosses for time to think about the offer in his hotel.

Spurs even paid the taxi to go there, but the taxi was instead redirected Wenger’s house, where he was accompanied by the deputy chairman David and a 3.5 million deal.

Petit remembered in conversation with Talksport Drive: “I had met Tottenham and Arsenal on the same day,” he said, emphasizing that North London’s gap was unknown to him. “I met Tottenham in the morning, but when I came to England, I didn’t know anything about the rivalry between the two clubs.

“When I left the trace stadium, they booked a taxi and the taxi driver asked me for the way, so I gave him the Arsenal address and did not notice that the taxi was paid by Spurs, so they knew where to go!

“I said Spurs that I needed time to think about it, but I knew that I had to see Arsenal and other clubs in Italy and Spain.

“I told everyone that I would decide and when I knew the answer I would give it, but after a few days I signed for arsenal and it went into newspapers and suddenly the story came.

“I recognized the pressure of rivalry at the time.”

Petit said about it in 2018: “It is now part of the legend. David yours still loves this story – and [more than] 20 years later he still tells it! “

Wenger’s revolution began his transfer, with Gilles Grimandi and Nicolas Anelka also arriving in Highbury.

And Petit was a very busy man.

Midfield power plant

At the end of the first season of the pony tail tail, he was a Premier League and FA Cup winner, his partnership with Patrick Vieira in midfield was the envy of the nation.

After reading the game from the defense in France to the heart of the midfield in England, Petit’s reading of the game was unsurpassed to separate attacks, while his temporary opposition defending occurred.

In the summer he won the World Cup in 1998, Zinedine Zidane showed for his first goal in the final against Brazil and then scored late to score it 3-0. He even found time to help Sun Hill with a performance in a Christmas episode of the former ITV drama The Bill.

Petit played and delivered a signed ball in the hospital. “I didn’t know that it was so popular at the time,” he laughed at the appearance on the popular TV show, which ended in 2010 after 27 years.

But these long blonde castles fans may never love him from British fans when his teammates threatened to cut them off because of an obvious rude.

“When the French boys came over, the atmosphere was a little different,” said former team -mate Ray Parlor Talk.

“We Briten had a little more fun.

“Dennis Bergkamp was different, they were a bit serious and we tried to get a little fun out of them.

“They changed quickly and they really enjoyed the jokes, but for example, Manu Petit sometimes passed you directly.

“You would say, ‘tomorrow, Manu’, and he would pass you directly.

“He did it to all players. He did it [captain] Tony Adams, he did it [goalkeeper] David Seaman and that is not acceptable.

“Whatever you have problems, you say a good morning to someone, is it very rude if you just pass someone. It is just this respect for other people.

“One morning we nailed it onto the wall and told him: ‘Say all the morning to everyone, because if you don’t, we will cut your ponytail!’

“We even had scissors.

“After that he was good like gold!”

However, Petit would be more concerned about Martin Keown, who told him that he should behave.

Once he joked Keown in front of a route in prison. “Martin is such a nice guy, but suddenly he can change in a second,” he said, remembering the combative nature of his teammate.

Both were violent competitors and both enjoyed the rise of Arsenal in recent years and Tottenham’s fights.

It happened again

Poor spores. It seems that they are ashamed of the transfer market again.

In addition to Petit, Chelsea did it with Willian, and now the Gunners have beaten their rivals for the signing of Eze by Crystal Palace.

Spurs had completed a deal to sign the England star in a deal worth 60 million GBP, with Arsenal appearing at the last hour to show her hand.

It is a dream train for Youth Gooner Eze and for Tottenham manager Thomas Frank it is back to the drawing board.

When the news broke the kidnapping, the interlocutors were flooded with annoyed Tottenham fans and believers.

The chairman Daniel Levy wore the main burden of the criticism of the sports bar, while a Gooner ridiculed the host Jamie O’Hara, a former Tottenham midfielder, by telling him that the club didn’t even want Eze.

The next derby in North London should be interesting.
