TalkSPORT understands West Ham’s hopes of signing a new striker have suffered a setback.
The Premier League strugglers had identified a target ahead of the January transfer window.

However, Nuno Espirito Santo is likely to miss out on the signing of Canadian international Promise David.
The Union Saint-Gilloise striker caught the eye of the Hammers in their search for a replacement for Niclas Fullkrug.
David has scored 34 goals in 65 games since signing for the Belgian side last summer.
He previously played in Croatia, the USA and Malta before joining from Estonian club Kalju.
The 24-year-old signed a new four-year contract with Union in the summer after helping them end their 90-year wait for the league title.
It now looks like David will turn down a move to the London Stadium when the transfer window reopens next month.
Broken promise
He is reluctant to swap Champions League football for a Premier League relegation battle, The Pitch Prospect understands.
As a result, the Hammers are ready to go back to the drawing board with their forward targets.
West Ham are currently two points clear of safe 18th place, having won just three of their 15 league games this season.
David’s current team are now at the top of the Belgian Pro League and are close to the Champions League play-off places.

Goal difference puts them outside the top 24 in the league phase standings ahead of games against Bayern Munich and Atalanta next month.
Nuno is expected to pursue a centre-forward role in January, while Fullkrug is set to leave the club.
The German’s agent admitted last month that his move to east London didn’t work out.
Since moving from Borussia Dortmund in 2024, he has scored just three goals in 29 appearances across all competitions.
West Ham’s striker problems
His departure would leave Callum Wilson and 21-year-old Callum Marshall the only recognized senior strikers available to Nuno.
Wilson and Jarrod Bowen are the Hammers’ top scorers this season with four league goals each.

They are now without a win in four games after Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Brighton.
The visitors, who host Aston Villa this weekend, were denied all three points by an injury-time equalizer on the south coast.
