Ruben Amorim reveals Manchester United January transfer window stance despite AFCON dilemma

Ruben Amorim will not rush into signings in the January transfer window despite losing key players at the Africa Cup of Nations.

However, the Manchester United manager refused to rule out the possibility of bringing some new faces to the club this winter.

Amorim will not panic despite his AFCON absences.

Man United’s Bryan Mbuemo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui departed for the Africa Cup of Nations this week.

And their departure has left Amorim without two of its key offensive opponents and one of its starting defenders.

This means the rest of the Red Devils squad will have to play in absence over the busy festive period.

However, given fears that United could lack quality in the positions of Mbeumo, Diallo and Mazraoui, some fans may want to see some transfer activity in the January window.

Amorim was asked ahead of his side’s clash with Aston Villa on Sunday whether he has money available to buy players and whether he will look in the market for new signings.

“We will only try to bring in players who we believe will be the future,” the Portuguese coach revealed in his press conference.

“This moment will not be about saving something to cope with the losses of three players for AFCON. It will not be like that.”

He added: “Even if we try to bring in a player, he might not be in the position we need at the moment.”
