Fenerbahce held initial talks with Al Ittihad about signing Kante this month.

Kante is out of contract in the summer and has yet to agree on a contract extension with the Saudi Pro League team.

Al Ittihad are ready to allow the 34-year-old to leave the club, but it is unclear whether this will be in January or the summer.

A departure would open the door for a new high-profile signing in the current window.

The club currently has all nine spots for foreign players over the age of 21 filled, with Kante leaving the club and Al Ittihad recording a new signing.

Kante joined Al Ittihad in 2023 on a three-year contract, leaving the Premier League after spells at Leicester and Chelsea.

He was part of the team that won the league and cup double in Saudi Arabia last season.

So far this season, Kante has played 21 games across all competitions and scored one goal.

However, Al Ittihad is currently 12 points behind league leaders Al Hilal in sixth place.
