Timo Werner’s contract with RB Leipzig was terminated after just three appearances this season.
The former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur player is expected to move to the MLS after leaving the German club.

Werner returned to Leipzig in the summer after 18 months on loan at Spurs in the Premier League.
However, he has only played 13 minutes in the Bundesliga so far this season, which led to his contract being terminated.
However, the 29-year-old won’t be without a club for long as he has agreed to join the San Jose Earthquakes.
His arrival as a designated player is expected to be completed before the start of the 2026 season.
Werner will join his new club after the birth of his child.
According to Sky Deutschland, Leipzig paid Werner a £1.73m settlement fee as part of his exit.
Werner’s suffering
The striker rejoined the club in 2022, just two years after joining Chelsea for £47.5m.
However, Werner struggled to regain the form of his first season in Leipzig.
In his last season before moving to Stamford Bridge, he scored 28 goals in 34 Bundesliga appearances.
However, in the five seasons since then, Werner has failed to reach double figures in the league.

His loan move to Spurs was also complicated by injuries, while he was not part of the squad that won the Europa League in May.
During his two stays in England, Werner scored 12 goals in 87 Premier League games.
These problems in front of goal also led to him not being called up for the national team for almost three years.
Werner last played for Germany in a friendly against Belgium in March 2023.
Since making his debut under Joachim Löw in 2017, he has scored 24 goals in 57 international matches.
He was also part of the squad for both the 2018 World Cup and the postponed Euro 2020.

Who is Werner’s next club?
Werner will now travel to the USA to kick-start his career with San Jose Earthquakes.
The Quakes begin the new MLS season on February 21st at home against Sporting Kansas City.
Despite being two-time MLS Cup champions, they have not won the title since 2003.
San Jose, currently managed by former national team boss Bruce Arena, missed last season’s MLS playoffs on goal difference after finishing 10th in the Western Conference.
