Championship star to undergo medical ahead of shock record-breaking MLS transfer

TalkSPORT understands Josh Sargent will undergo a medical with Toronto FC ahead of his record-breaking move from Norwich City.

The American was granted permission to travel to Canada on Friday afternoon to complete the move worth over £20 million.

The transfer fee exceeds the £20 million transfer fee Los Angeles FC paid to Tottenham for Heung-min Son in August 2025.

The lengthy move comes ahead of the new MLS season, which begins this weekend.

Norwich, who sit 17th in the Championship, initially rejected Toronto’s approach for the striker.

Discussions between the two clubs have been ongoing for two months.

And now there is an agreement for the 26-year-old to try his hand at MLS for the first time in his career.

The USA international has not played for the Canaries since informing head coach Philippe Clement that he would not be available for selection for their 5-1 FA Cup win over Walsall on January 11.

Clement revealed that he received a text message from the striker informing him that he was unavailable for the game as he was struggling with “transfer distractions”.

In the following days, Toronto’s interest was made public and their initial offer for Sargent fell short of Norwich’s valuation.

The striker was then disciplined by club bosses for refusing to play and has been training separately from the first team ever since.

More to come…
