Greenwood joined Getafe on a season-long loan on the final day of last summer’s transfer window.

The move came after United said last August that the 22-year-old would continue his career “away from Old Trafford” following an internal investigation into allegations of rape, assault and death threats made against him.

The young striker, who was arrested in January 2022 after images and videos emerged online, denied the allegations and all charges against him were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023.

United’s new minority owner, Jim Ratcliffe, later refused to rule out a future for Greenwood at the club.

However, The Pitch Prospect sources believe United are keen to cash in on the frontman this summer, with there being strong interest in the Englishman following his first season in football.

Greenwood has 16 goal contributions [ten goals, six assists] in 34 appearances for Getafe, who sit tenth in LaLiga.

The Madrid-based club are keen to bring the Englishman back on another loan deal and have contacted United about a second deal for the 2024/25 season.

However, with interest from some European giants including Napoli and Atlético Madrid, Greenwood is believed to be aiming higher than the midfield club.

Greenwood still has one year left on his contract with Manchester United, which expires in June 2025.

Barcelona were linked with an interest in the Bradford-born striker, who has one cap with the senior England team, earlier this season.

He has now also been offered the chance to switch international ties to Jamaica and qualify through his father. Coach Heimir Hallgrimsson admitted he would “love” Greenwood on his Reggae Boyz team.
