After his heroics at Ipswich, McKenna has become a sought-after manager.

In just two full seasons at Portman Road, McKenna has led Ipswich from League One to the top flight – narrowly losing the league title to Leicester.

The Pitch Prospect recently reported that the 38-year-old would spurn interest in order to continue his development at Ipswich.

And the Suffolk team have now confirmed that McKenna has signed a new contract until 2028. TalkSPORT understands his income to be around £3 million a year.

Speaking on the club’s website, McKenna said: “I am extremely proud to have signed a new contract with the club.

“We have achieved incredible success together over the last two seasons and I am delighted to have the opportunity and responsibility to lead this fantastic club into its first season in the Premier League for 22 years.

“Preparations and planning for the challenge ahead have been ongoing since our promotion at the beginning of May and there is still a lot to do before the start of the new season, such an exciting time for everyone at the club.

“I am so happy to have set my future on taking the next step with Ipswich Town and am really excited about what lies ahead as we continue this journey together.”

The Ipswich CEO added: “We are delighted that Kieran has committed himself even more to the club in the future.

“Success brings its own challenges and there has been considerable speculation over the past few weeks but Kieran and I have been in communication throughout, often multiple times a day, as we plan the club’s first Premier League season in a generation.

“Kieran signing a new contract is a huge boost for us ahead of such an important season as we continue to work hard to prepare for next season.”

Since taking over at Ipswich in December 2021, he has won 75 of his 131 games in all competitions and lost just 20.

After just six months in charge, he led Ipswich to eleventh place in League One before finishing second the following season.

And in the 2023/24 season, Ipswich collected a whopping 96 points from 46 Championship games, in which they lost only six games.

In the end, they were only one point behind champions Leicester, who were 17 points ahead at one point.

McKenna is now preparing for a busy summer at Ipswich, who are back in the top flight for the first time since 2002.
