Rob McElhenney sends out latest plea for Gareth Bale to join Wrexham and makes golf offer

The offer for Gareth Bale to come out of retirement and sign for Wrexham “is still on the table,” co-owner Rob McElhenney told The Pitch Prospect.

The American even admitted that the golf-loving Welsh football hero can take to the pitch as often as he wants as long as he plays for the newly promoted League One club.

Can Wrexham lure Welsh football legend Bale out of retirement?.

McElhenney, who co-owns Wrexham with fellow actor Ryan Reynolds, made an ambitious bid to bring Bale to the Racecourse Ground last year after the club secured their long-awaited promotion from the National League.

After signing former Premier League and England goalkeeper Ben Foster, the Hollywood duo planned an even bigger coup by bringing one of Wales’ most famous sons back home.

Unfortunately for McElhenney, Bale turned him down, but it seems the Wrexham boss is not giving up so easily.

“Gareth Bale is technically still available,” he told The Pitch Prospect live from the MLB London Series, where he watched his beloved Phillies play the New York Mets.

“I made the request last year and will simply tell Gareth that the offer is still on the table.

“We give you the opportunity to play golf whenever you need it. As long as you come to practice once or twice a week, we can figure out how to fit you on the course for ten minutes.

“And the golf courses – Wales is one of the most beautiful countries in the world!”

Bale has been retired for two years and hung up his football boots shortly after the 2022 World Cup.

This was Wales’ first World Cup appearance in 64 years. The winger wanted to end his career on a high note and became his country’s all-time top scorer with 41 goals.

And it seems the five-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid is quite enjoying his retirement, meaning McElhenney may have to up his game to really tempt the Welsh wizard to lace up his boots again.

When asked about the Wrexham Links last year, Bale said: “No, I don’t think so. I think I was more waiting for a free round of golf from Rob!”

“I’m sure we’ll have a chat and some jokes, but I’m pretty happy where I am.

“I spend a lot of time with my children and my wife. I’ve lost that time over the years because of my involvement in football. I just enjoy family life and play a bit of golf.”

Keep trying, Rob!
