Chelsea closing in on £19m deal to sign Aston Villa teen Omari Kellyman

Chelsea are close to reaching an agreement with Aston Villa to sign Omari Kellyman for a transfer fee of around £19 million.

Chelsea have already been active this summer after the club signed Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer as his contract with Fulham was expiring.

And new boss Enzo Maresca could already make his second transfer of the year with Aston Villa star Kellyman.

The two Premier League clubs are currently negotiating a deal that could see the 18-year-old transfer to Stamford Bridge for £19 million.

Kellyman has yet to undergo a medical and has not yet agreed personal terms with the Blues.

The young player has made an impressive impression in the Premier League 2, where the U21 clubs play, scoring seven goals in 12 appearances.

He made six appearances in all competitions for Villa last season after joining the club from Derby County in March 2022.

The teenager made his professional debut in August 2023, shining in the 3-0 win over Hibernian in the Europa Conference League.

He made his first appearance with a debut after setting up Leon Bailey for the second goal of the game.

Kellyman has played twice in the Premier League – two cameos as a substitute for Villa against Manchester City and Crystal Palace in the closing stages of the season.

Maatsen is close to moving to Villa.

He only signed a new contract with Villa last October and is considered a promising star, making his England U20 debut this month.

This is not the first time that Chelsea have sought to poach players from Villa’s academy. Last summer, the club signed Carney Chukwuemeka for £20 million.

Meanwhile, Villa is close to making its first transfer of the summer: Ian Maatsen is set to join from Chelsea for £37.5 million.

The Dutchman was loaned to Borussia Dortmund in January and helped the club reach the Champions League final, which they lost to Real Madrid.
