Manchester United have put an end to speculation about Erik ten Hag’s future and announced a contract extension with him.
The Red Devils head coach agreed a new one-year contract with the club, keeping him until 2026, as a reward for leading the club to FA Cup victory last season.

He was under pressure as the club was only eighth in the table – United’s worst placing in the Premier League.
But his success in the FA Cup – his second title after winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 – earned him new contracts at Old Trafford.
On the club’s website, the delighted Dutchman said: “I am very pleased that we have reached an agreement with the club on further cooperation.”
“Looking back over the past two years, we can be proud of two trophies and many examples of progress since I joined.
“However, we must also be aware that there is still a lot of hard work ahead of us to reach the level expected of Manchester United, which means we have to fight for English and European titles.”
“In my discussions with the club, we are completely united in our vision for achieving these goals and we are all determined to go down this path together.”
United’s new sporting director, Dan Ashworth, praised the former Ajax coach and described him as the “best partner” he could wish for.
He noted: “With two trophies in the last two seasons, Erik has cemented his record as one of the most consistent and successful coaches in European football.

“The club’s review of last season has highlighted areas for improvement, but it was also clear that Erik is the best partner for us to work with to improve standards and results.
“This group of players and staff have already shown that they are capable of competing and winning at the highest level. Now we need to do that even more consistently.”
“With our football leadership team now strengthened, we look forward to working hand in hand with Erik to achieve our shared goals for this football club.”
The next step for United is to strengthen their coaching staff. The Pitch Prospect believes that club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy is close to returning to the Theatre of Dreams.
The 48-year-old turned down an offer from Burnley to succeed Vincent Kompany as coach at Turf Moor.
Following the appointment of Ten Hag, United will now hope for confirmation of Van Nistelrooy’s return.
