Liverpool paid Brighton a bargain £35 million for the world champion after activating his release clause.

Mac Allister enjoyed an impressive debut season with the Reds, helping his side win the Carabao Cup and secure a return to the Champions League.

The 25-year-old is no stranger to trophies, having won the 2022 World Cup and most recently the Copa America.

His exploits caught the attention of La Liga champions Real Madrid, but father Carlos allayed Liverpool fans’ fears by claiming the star will stay at Anfield… for now.

“Alexis is performing very well at Liverpool and that is the most important thing at the moment,” Mac Allister’s father told Egyptian website MSR.

“There are no negotiations between Real Madrid and Alexis and the player will continue at Liverpool next season.

“If any offers to sign Alexis come in in the future, we will first discuss them with Liverpool management.”

Mac Allister spoke openly about his joy at Liverpool after news of Real Madrid’s alleged interest emerged.

Speaking to Argentine broadcaster TyC Sports, he said: “Everything is working well, it’s not a club with big egos and everyone tries to help you as best they can.”

“Everything is different on the field because everything can be very beautiful outside, but inside you have to perform. I had to play in different positions and I enjoyed it a lot. I am happy to be at such a big club as Liverpool.”
