Calafiori is set to become Arsenal’s first summer signing for an initial £34 million in a deal that could rise to as much as £38 million with add-ons.

He has also been excluded from Bologna’s pre-season camp as his move to the Premier League is imminent.

The Italian’s former club, Basel, which he left for Bologna only last summer, is said to receive 50 percent of the transfer profit.

However, the Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Roma believe they are entitled to more money by selling the player to Basel.

Calafiori joined the Swiss team in 2022 for 2.5 million euros. [£2.1million] Deal that included a 40 percent sell-on clause for a future transfer.

A year later he signed with Bologna for 4 million euros [£3.4million] The transfer, whereby Roma is said to have earned just over 1.5 million euros [£1.3million].

If Calafiori signs for Arsenal, Basel could now pocket 50 percent of Bologna’s transfer fee.

However, Roma believes that they are entitled to 40 percent of this amount and should therefore earn an additional €8 million. [£6.7million].
