Chelsea strike deal to sign Filip Jorgensen and Enzo Maresca wants him to join USA pre-season tour immediately

As The Pitch Prospect has learned, Chelsea have agreed a transfer fee of £20.7 million with Villarreal for the signing of goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen.

There is a verbal agreement between the Blues and the Danish U21 international for a six-year contract with the option of a further twelve months.

Jorgensen will undergo a medical in the United States, where Chelsea are currently on their pre-season tour.

The new boss Enzo Maresca wants the 22-year-old to join the group immediately after signing the contract and to be able to stay until the end of the tour.

If all goes to plan, Jorgensen could become Chelsea’s seventh signing this summer, with The Pitch Prospect having learned that the club are also looking to sign Boca Juniors defender Aaron Anselmino.

The West Londoners have already signed well-known players such as Tosin Adarabioyo and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Omari Kellyman, Marc Guiu, Renato Veiga and Caleb Wiley were also confirmed as new signings ahead of the new season.

Jorgensen is expected to be the fourth goalkeeper to sign for Chelsea since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital completed the takeover in 2022.

After 44 appearances for Villarreal, he will join Gabriel Slonina, Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea also still have Kepa Arrizabalaga under contract following his loan move to Real Madrid, although there are reports that he could leave the club.

Marcus Bettinelli, Lucas Bergstrom and Eddie Beach are three other goalkeepers listed in the first team on the club’s website.

The Blues have already started their pre-season programme after playing 2-2 against Wrexham during the week.
