Liverpool are close to signing Giorgi Mamardashvili.

However, the Georgian will not join Arne Slot’s team until next season.

Mamardashvili will instead stay at Valencia for the rest of this season before moving to Merseyside in 2025.

The move from Liverpool comes despite interest from Premier League clubs such as Bournemouth.

This makes him Slot’s first new signing since replacing Jürgen Klopp as head coach.

However, since this is a new signing for the future, Liverpool are interested in making more signings this summer.

The Reds have started looking for a new goalkeeper who could replace Alisson Becker in the long term at the club.

Mamardashvili, who played for Georgia at the 2024 European Championship, has a contract with Valencia for another three years.

After initially signing on loan from FC Locomotic in 2021, the young player quickly established himself as Valencia’s number one goalkeeper.

Since then, he has made 101 appearances for the club in all competitions and has missed only one game in the Spanish top flight since the 2022/23 season.

Mamardashvili also made Valencia history by making the most consecutive league appearances for the club during this period, starting 69 times in a row.

While signing a goalkeeper would be all well and good, Danny Murphy believes signing a central midfielder is a priority.

“You can’t judge a team’s signings until the transfer window closes,” he noted. “Big signings and really quality players sometimes take a while to come through.”

“You know what the domino effect does on the transfer market, we have seen it many, many times.

Graeme Souness admits Mo Salah is a diver and questions whether he will turn up for Liverpool when it matters

“If a big mistake happens somewhere, they will be very disappointed that they didn’t get Zubimendi because I think they thought it was too much.

“They lost against [Romeo] Lavia and [Moises] Last year they lost to Caicedo and now they’ve lost to Zubimendi. It’s not great, especially because they need a player in that position.”
