Federico Chiesa has probably already made himself popular with Liverpool fans, regardless of whether his planned move to Anfield goes ahead or not.

The Pitch Prospect has learned that the Reds are exploring a transfer for the Juventus and Italy striker ahead of Friday’s deadline.

Chiesa has been linked with Juve for four years and will join them in 2022 after spending two years on loan from Fiorentina.

Juve are ready to sell the 26-year-old, whose contract with the Serie A giants expires in its final year.

The 2020 European Championship winner could be available for as little as £10 million, which could encourage Liverpool to go through with the late purchase.

Comments he made in May 2022 suggest he will have high approval ratings in the Kop after expressing his admiration for Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

During a Serie A match between Juventus and Lazio, with Chiesa sitting in the stands, the player was asked who he would rather have in his midfield between Gerrard, Lampard and Scholes.

After taking time to reflect on the age-old debate, Chiesa replied, “Stevie G.”

Chiesa was part of the Italian team that won the 2020 European Championship and moved from Fiorentina to Juventus a year later after spending two years on loan at the Old Lady.

In 2022, he suffered a cruciate ligament tear that put him out of action for ten months.

At Juventus, Chiesa won two Coppa Italias and one Supercoppa Italiana.

Chiesa is the son of former Italian Sampdoria, Parma, Fiorentina and Lazio striker Enrico Chiesa.

The Reds are yet to sign a player this summer, but are close to announcing the signing of Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Mamardashvili will move for a fee of around £30 million, but he will be loaned back to Valencia for the remainder of the season before joining his Liverpool teammates next summer.

Liverpool are fourth in the Premier League after winning their first two league games under new manager Arne Slot.
