As The Pitch Prospect has learned, Manchester United and Chelsea have held exploratory talks about a deal involving Raheem Sterling.
Sterling was dropped from the Blues’ first team plans, his squad number was withdrawn, he was Enzo Maresca‘s training and now needs a move.

On Tuesday, the Daily Telegraph reported that Man United’s sporting director Daniel Ashworth had started talks with the Blues about a deal for current outsider Sterling.
The outlet also reported that the two parties had discussed a swap for Man United’s own disgraced winger, Sterling’s former England teammate Jadon Sancho.
Sancho has been left out of Man United’s matchday squad Fulham and Brighton so far.
But according to The Telegraph, the Sterling deal could only become a swap deal for Sancho if it goes according to their terms.
The source also states that another unnamed European club is competing for Sterling.
The Pitch Prospect had already reported on Tuesday that four clubs are vying for Sancho, including Chelsea, who are closely monitoring his situation.
Juventus were the most serious suitors for the former Borussia Dortmund star, but a move to Turin is anything but certain.
“The writing is on the wall [for Sancho],” said Alex Crook, football correspondent for The Pitch Prospect, on Monday.
He continued: “They will have difficulty selling him. It would be a loan deal again, he has two years left and a one-year option on his contract. He has a lot of money.”
“There is talk of Chelsea.”

When asked if a move to Stamford Bridge would be an option for Sancho, Crook said: “I don’t see where he fits in at Chelsea.”
“I would take Sterling,” he added. “A lot of Manchester United fans wouldn’t, but I think he’s better than Sancho. I think he can bring more to the team.”
In order for the swap deal with Chelsea to work, Sancho would first have to accept a salary cut.
Secondly, United would have to be willing to sign Raheem Sterling for £300,000 a week, who is seeking a permanent move rather than a loan.
Chelsea have a ‘bomb squad’ that they want to get rid of before the final day of the transfer deadline.
These include Sterling, Ben Chilwell And Trevoh Chalobah.
