Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all deadline day winners as Jadon Sancho and Raheem Sterling headline blockbuster arrivals

The final day of transfers was no disappointment, with three of the Premier League’s biggest clubs all completing late blockbuster deals.

This meant that spending in England’s top flight exceeded the £1.8 billion mark over the summer transfer window.

Arsenal were able to sign Raheem Sterling on loan from Chelsea for a season.

This means a reunion with Mikel Arteta, under whom he worked with great success during their time together at Manchester City – a time in which Sterling was involved in 53 goals in their last season together.

The Gunners also completed a loan deal for Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto, allowed Aaron Ramsdale to move to Southampton for £25 million and saw Eddie Nketiah move to Crystal Palace for a fee of £30 million.

They also allowed Reiss Nelson to join London neighbours Fulham on loan for a season.

While Chelsea allowed Sterling to move to one of their rivals, the Blues made a surprise deal and signed Jadon Sancho from Manchester United.

The winger joins Stamford Bridge on a season-long loan, with the commitment to make the transfer permanent next summer for £25 million.

Chelsea almost came close to being the big winners on deadline day, but the club was denied a sensational deal to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli.

There has been much speculation that the goal-scoring striker could move to west London, but with no agreement reached with the Blues or any other club in Saudi Arabia, he is likely to return to Napoli, where he is currently excluded from the first team.

The biggest deal involving a Premier League team on the final day of the season went to Manchester United, who completed the signing of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain for £50.5 million.

The midfielder comes to the club to provide stability in the defensive midfield, replacing Scott McTominay. The Scottish international joins Napoli for £27.5 million.

This departure has disappointed Erik ten Hag greatly, as the Dutch boss admitted that the change had been approved in view of profit and sustainability rules.

In addition to signing Nketiah from Arsenal, Crystal Palace were among the most heavily involved clubs, signing Maxence Lacroix from Wolfsburg for a transfer fee of £21 million and Trevoh Chalobah on loan from Chelsea.

They also allowed Odsonne Edouard to join newly promoted Leicester on loan for a season.

The Chelsea striker joined Goodison Park on a season-long loan with the option to sign him permanently for £30 million.

In terms of departures, Billy Gilmour left Brighton to join Napoli for £13.5 million.

Meanwhile, Ivan Toney has signed a contract with Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli for a transfer fee of £40 million.
