The link between Marc Guehi and a possible departure from Crystal Palace is not going to disappear anytime soon.
Eagles chairman Steve Parish received widespread praise for turning down Newcastle’s offers for Marc Guehi, but he faces a fresh battle to retain his star defender in January and next summer.

Newcastle were confident of offloading Guehi from Selhurst Park after submitting a club-record £70 million offer, but Parish upped his asking price to £75 million at the last minute.
The Eagles’ stance was helped by the fact that Guehi, who had captained Palace in their first three Premier League games, had not actively pushed for the move.
However, The Pitch Prospect was told that Guehi is in no hurry to extend his contract, which expires at the end of next season.
Not only does this open up the possibility for Newcastle to return with a new offer, but it also puts clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea on alert.
Ten Hag’s transfer request rejected
The new club management prevented Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag from re-signing Sofyan Amrabat.
Ten Hag was in favour of bringing back Amrabat, who played on loan last season and then impressed in the surprise FA Cup final win over Manchester City, but sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox decided to go in a different direction.
The Pitch Prospect has learned that Everton also considered a move for the Moroccan international towards the end of the transfer window, but he has since signed for Fenerbahce on loan from Fiorentina.
United have spent £200m on five new players this summer, signing Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee, Noussair Mazraoui and Manuel Ugarte, and Ten Hag is understood to be in full agreement with Wilcox and Ashworth leading the signings after the under-pressure Dutchman took a leading role in previous transfer windows.
Still waiting…
Southampton is faced with the question of whether Ajax completed the paperwork to sign Kamaldeen Sulemana in time.
Ajax’s management is confident they have completed the loan deal seconds before the Dutch transfer window closes on Monday.

However, they are waiting for FIFA approval to ratify the Ghanaian international’s move to Amsterdam.
If it works out, there is an option to buy for £17 million.
Southampton paid a club-record fee of £22 million to sign Sulemana from Stade Rennes in February 2023, but he was a huge disappointment for the club, scoring just two goals in 44 appearances.
Wolves star stays
Arsenal target Dan Bentley is close to signing a new contract with Wolves.
The Gunners were keen to sign Bentley throughout the transfer window in order to increase their proportion of homegrown players.
However, Wolves did not want to give up Bentley, who is considered number two behind new signing Sam Johnstone – ahead of Jose Sa.
Wolves are ready to take up the two-year extension of Bentley’s contract, which expires at the end of the season.
