Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher eyed by Premier League rivals in potential £35m transfer

Caoimhin Kelleher is reportedly a summer transfer target for Chelsea amid his potential exit from Liverpool.

The Irishman has been the Reds’ trusted second-choice goalkeeper behind Alisson since making his debut for the club in 2019.

Kelleher has mainly featured in cup competitions and has only 20 Premier League appearances to his name in six seasons.

Liverpool announced in the summer that Georgian Giorgi Mamardashvili would be moving from Valencia ahead of the 2025/26 season.

That means Kelleher could abandon the goalkeeping pecking order at Anfield, but first-team football could be offered elsewhere.

As The Sun reports, Chelsea are pursuing the 25-year-old with a view to a possible move next summer.

However, it was said that the Reds might not be willing to sell a player of his quality to a Premier League rival at a cost of £35m.

However, Chelsea could help facilitate an exit if they reach the asking price.

Italian giants Juventus and Napoli are also said to be interested, but it is claimed Kelleher would prefer to stay in the Premier League if possible.

Robert Sanchez is Chelsea’s current No. 1 under Enzo Maresca, with Filip Jorgensen having been their cup goalkeeper since his arrival in the summer.

Marcus Bettinelli and Lucas Bergstrom are other options, with players such as Djordje Petrovic and Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan.

Despite the strong competition for places, Kelleher would be a top acquisition for the Blues should they agree a deal with Liverpool.

With Alisson recently sidelined with a hamstring injury, Kelleher has started Liverpool’s last four Premier League games.

He also played in the Champions League victories against RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen as well as the Carabao Cup win against West Ham.

But even though Liverpool are undefeated this season with Kelleher in goal, Alisson will be first choice again when he returns.

“He is and will remain our first goalkeeper when he is fit. But first he has to be fit,” said coach Arne Slot via the Evening Standard.

“But Caoimhin performed excellently last season and again this season, but once Alisson is fit he will be our first goalkeeper.”
