‘Let him go’ – Simon Jordan tells Liverpool which player they should allow to leave as free agent

Liverpool should release Reds star Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contracts are expiring.

Reds academy progeny Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are all key players who could all leave Anfield at the end of the season.

Salah spoke last weekend of being “more out than in” while The Pitch Prospect understands Van Dijk’s future remains unclear.

Alexander-Arnold, meanwhile, is being chased by Real Madrid and other European giants.

And of the three, The Pitch Prospect’s Simon Jordan believes the England international may be the one they can release.

“This is a good team, there are good players,” he said Thursday at Matterface and Jordan.

“You don’t want to lose Alexander-Arnold, but will it be a disaster if you do?”

“I do not believe that.”

When asked by Sam Matterface if he would give in to Alexander-Arnold and pay him better than Van Dijk and Salah, the former Crystal Palace owner replied: “No.”

“With due respect to what these players are paid and what the market wants to pay them, and if they can get something significant elsewhere, you either have to compete or find a mechanism that gives you the opportunity to keep the player.”

“If he wants to go, let him go. I don’t think Trent Alexander-Arnold is that important economically because he’s at that stage in his career.”

“If you keep it until you’re 30, the economic aspects are no longer taken into account.”

“So the only reason you’re giving him a longer-term contract is because you’re protecting him for two reasons. Firstly, you want to keep it in your warehouse and secondly, you want to protect its economic value.”

He continued: “I would suggest the two most important signings are Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah. I think they will do both.”

Liverpool faced Los Blancos in the Champions League on Wednesday night, with the Reds winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo.

This means that Arne Slot’s team remains leaders in the Champions League.

Alexander-Arnold was on the bench for that game, while his young deputy Conor Bradley – who could now be a concern with injury – thrived in the duel in which he bullied Kylian Mbappe.

The Pitch Prospect’s Stuart Pearce joked that Alexander-Arnold should ask for a contract with his suitors present for the right-back performance.

He said at Anfield: “With Trent Alexander-Arnold sitting on the bench at the moment I’m sure he’s thinking: I might just knock on the manager’s door and say: Do you have a contract for me please?”

“Because you have someone tonight who was absolutely outstanding, he was brilliant.”

“He’s been treated [Kylian] Mbappe, he came forward, he prepared goals, he gave everything.”

The English defender has played 325 games for the Reds, scoring 19 goals and providing 83 assists.
