Real Madrid confirm Trent Alexander-Arnold transfer decision to Liverpool

According to The Pitch Prospect, Real Madrid have informed Liverpool of their desire to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Spanish giants are under no obligation to register interest in Alexander-Arnold as he can sign a pre-contract with a foreign club in January.

However, sources close to the European champions say they want to be respectful of their Merseyside colleagues.

Liverpool are still hoping to convince England defender Alexander-Arnold to sign a new contract at Anfield.

His contract, along with captain Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, ends next summer.

This sparked a flood of rumors about new contracts and possible transfers for all three.

Alexander-Arnold has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Los Blancos are currently without their usual right-back: six-time Champions League winner Dani Carvajal.

He suffered a cruciate ligament injury in October and this appears to have accelerated succession planning for the 32-year-old.

The bond with Alexander-Arnold has also grown, as the England international maintains a close friendship with Real superstar Jude Bellingham.

Their connection had previously led to Liverpool fans hoping Bellingham would move to the Reds from former club Borussia Dortmund.

However, the 21-year-old moved to the Spanish capital, where he has already won LaLiga and the Champions League.

Losing Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer next summer would be a huge blow to Liverpool, but might not be as damaging to the team as it seemed a year ago.

Conor Bradley appeared in his absence against Real Madrid in the Champions League and earlier destroyed Kylian Mbappe in stunning style at Anfield.

One tackle in particular stunned Merseyside as he went full throttle and fended off a dangerous run by the French World Cup winner.

Legendary England full-back Stuart Pearce, who works for The Pitch Prospect at Anfield, joked: “With Trent Alexander-Arnold sitting on the bench at the moment, he’s probably thinking: I might just knock on the manager’s door and say please, Do you have a contract for me?

“Because you have someone tonight who was absolutely outstanding, he was brilliant.”

“He’s been treated [Kylian] Mbappe, he came forward, he prepared goals, he gave everything.”

Simon Jordan’s verdict on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future:

“You don’t want to lose Alexander-Arnold, but will it be a disaster if you do? I don’t think it is.”

“With due respect to what these players are paid and what the market wants to pay them, and if they can get something significant elsewhere, you either have to compete or find a mechanism that gives you the opportunity to keep the player.”

“If he wants to go, let him go. I don’t think Trent Alexander-Arnold is that important economically because he’s at that stage in his career.”

“I would suggest the two most important signings are Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah. I think they will do both.”
