Tottenham ‘on the verge’ of signing Guglielmo Vicario replacement

Tottenham Hotspur are close to signing Slavia Prague goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, according to a report.

Kinsky, the son of the former Czech Republic goalkeeper of the same name, followed in his father’s footsteps and moved to Dukla Prague. Slavia snapped up the promising manager in 2021, when he was still a teenager, for around £130,000. After several loan spells in the Czech football pyramid, Kinsky rose to become the top club’s undisputed number one this season.

The 1.90 meter tall goalkeeper has Europa League experience and was called up to the senior team for the first time in October – although he is still waiting for his debut.

Negotiations between Spurs and Slavia over the 21-year-old goalkeeper were remarkably calm. The news only became known on Saturday morning, when the Czech publication inFotbal announced that Kinsky was in London undergoing a medical examination after his future employers hosted Newcastle United in the lunchtime kick-off.

Ange Postecoglou was forced to use third choice goalkeeper Brandon Austin for this league game. The Hertfordshire-born former England U21 international was called up to make his senior debut for Tottenham nine years after joining the club following injuries to the team’s number one and two.

First-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario broke his ankle in a 4-0 win against Manchester City in November. After playing most of the competition with this broken bone, the Italian will not have to take a break until April at the earliest. Veteran substitute Fraser Forster was deployed in Vicario’s absence until he was struck by an illness that struck the team this week.

Even if Forster recovers, Kinsky could be used quickly after his arrival. It is said that there was a verbal agreement between all parties Fabrizio Romanoand the club is “close to” completing this much-needed transfer.

This injury-hit side of Tottenham host Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday before traveling to fifth-tier side Tamworth in the third round of the FA Cup next weekend.
