La Liga formally reject Barcelona’s plea to re-register Dani Olmo

La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have officially rejected Barcelona’s request to reinstate Dani Olmo and Pau Victor to their squad for the remainder of the season.

The pair’s initial registrations expired on December 31 and Barcelona failed to raise the funds needed to re-register both Olmo and Victor before the deadline. League rules state that teams can no longer register players once their initial term has expired.

Despite what appears to be great optimism on the part of Barcelona to find a way out of the ruling, La Liga has now officially ended the club’s hopes of renewing the licenses of Olmo and Victor.

“After FCB complied with LALIGA’s financial control requirements on January 3, 2025 and the club completed the relevant documentation, LALIGA’s budget validation body decided to extend the cost cap for FCB’s sports team from the above date,” began an explanation.

“Since FC Barcelona has requested the licenses for the recommended players in this context, the Supervisory Committee, after analyzing the current association regulations, agrees not to grant either the previous visa or the final license to the players requested by FC Barcelona.” Mr. Daniel Olmo Carvajal and Mr. Pau Victor Delgado, according to the literal interpretation of Articles 130.2 and 141.5 of the General Provisions of the RFEF, which prohibit a player whose license has been revoked during the same season from obtaining a license in the same club team with which he was already associated.”

This means that neither La Liga nor the RFEF will grant Olmo and Victor new registrations, forcing Barcelona to try their luck in court again.
