Tottenham complete first signing of January transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur have officially announced the arrival of Czech goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky. The deal is said to be worth around £10 million.

The former Slavia Prague goalkeeper was only linked with a move to Spurs over the weekend after reports suggested the 21-year-old flew to London for a medical on Saturday. Kinsky put pen to paper before the deal was announced on the club’s official website on Sunday morning.

“We are pleased to announce the signing of Antonin Kinsky from SK Slavia Prague, subject to international approval and work permit,” a club statement said. “The 21-year-old goalkeeper has signed a contract that runs until 2031 and will wear the number 31 jersey.”

However, no transfer fee has been officially announced Fabrizio Romano claimed that the figure was “more than £10 million”.

Tottenham are desperately short of goalkeeping options and Kinsky could be forced between the posts on his debut in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool as early as Wednesday – provided all legal paperwork surrounding the deal has been processed by then.

After Fraser Forster was ruled out due to illness along with the long-term absentee Guglielmo Vicario, Ange Postecoglou had to give Tottenham’s third goalkeeper Brandon Austin his first-team debut in the away game against Newcastle United on Saturday. Although he didn’t embarrass himself, the little-seen goalkeeper conceded twice in a 2-1 defeat, extending Tottenham’s miserable home form.
