Everton have confirmed they have sacked manager Sean Dyche just hours before their FA Cup third round game against Peterborough.
Dyche, who joined in January 2023, has led the team to just three wins from 19 games this season, leaving Everton just one point above the relegation zone.
He recently acknowledged that results had fallen short of expectations and acknowledged that his position was rightly at risk.
“To be clear, this is how it should be,” he said. “Ultimately, succession planning should certainly be part of your due diligence for a company of this size and for this club.”
“You have to win games, we haven’t won enough this season, you have to make sure the team performs correctly, you have to try to please everyone at all times. This is the work, and we haven’t done this often enough, and it depends on me, without a doubt.
Dyche is leaving the team along with coaching staff Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard and Billy Mercer.
Everton have begun the search for a new coach but will leave first-team duties in the meantime to under-18s coach Leighton Baines and club captain Seamus Coleman, who will oversee the Toffees in their FA Cup tie against Peterborough on Thursday.
