Saturday’s FA Cup 3rd round results

The third round of the FA Cup began with a bang on Saturday, with a number of heavyweight Premier League clubs desperate not to make a mistake.

Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City had no problems against their respective lower league opponents Accrington Stanley, Morecambe and Salford City – an overall result of 17:0 shows the class difference between the top and fourth league of English football.

Brighton & Hove Albion impressed with an impressive 4-0 win over Norwich City at Carrow Road, while Bournemouth also reminded everyone of Andoni Iroala’s improving performances by seeing off five contenders West Bromwich Albion, who are in promoted to the championship.

Leicester City and Nottingham Forest were the other Premier League winners – the former comfortably beat Queens Park Rangers while the latter saw off Luton Town – but there was a major shock in west London.

Plymouth Argyle, who had just sacked Wayne Rooney, scored the only goal of the game to beat Brentford – a team with one of the most impressive home records in the Premier League. Morgan Whittaker was the winner of the game, finding space on the edge of the box before firing into the bottom corner.
