Inter Miami manager Javier Mascherano says that is “impossible”. Sign Al’s Neymar due to Major League Soccer’s salary cap.
The Brazilian superstar has only played seven games for Al Hilal since moving to Saudi Arabia in August 2023 and was sidelined for around a year due to a cruciate ligament injury. He has had further fitness problems since returning to the squad last October.
Neymar’s lack of involvement in the Middle East has led to talk of a possible January or summer exit, and he has admitted he would like to reunite with his former teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at Inter Miami.
The trio formed the famous and deadly “MSN” triumvirate during their stay together in Barcelona between 2014 and 2017.
In conversation with CNNNeymar admitted: “Of course it would be incredible to play with Messi and Suarez again. They are my friends. We still talk to each other. It would be interesting to revive this trio.”
“I’m happy at Al Hilal, I’m happy in Saudi Arabia, but who knows. Football is full of surprises.”
Although Neymar’s comments fueled speculation about a move to MLS, Inter Miami coach Mascherano, who also played with Neymar at Barcelona, claimed that the American team was unable to get a deal done due to the league’s salary cap.
“We can’t talk about Ney because we have nothing,” said the 40-year-old. “Of course Ney is a great player. Every coach in the world wants him, but right now, but you know the MLS rules around the salary cap. Therefore, it is impossible for us to think about him at this moment.”
The new MLS season begins on February 22 and Inter Miami, which won the Eastern Conference and Supporters’ Shield for the first time in 2024, will have the opportunity to strengthen its squad when the transfer window opens in late January and closes in April.
