Zlatan Ibrahimovic, now AC Milan’s senior advisor, has told Marcus Rashford that he would move to “one of the biggest clubs in the world” if he left Manchester United for Italy.
There is speculation that Rashford will leave Old Trafford before the end of the January transfer window, having fallen out of favor since the arrival of Ruben Amorim as head coach.
Rashford has been linked with a number of clubs abroad, including Milan, Juventus, Napoli and Borussia Dortmund, while a loan move to another Premier League club – Tottenham and West Ham have been linked – is not ruled out, provided his considerable salary this can somehow be covered.
It is reported that Milan have made formal moves at United. His representatives are said to have been in Italy to discuss a possible move and Rashford was apparently encouraged to make a move by legendary former striker Ibrahimovic.
“I know him very well, I played with him when he was young, now he is grown up and established,” said Ibrahmovic Heaven Italy. “He achieved great things at United and today it is his club. How can you convince him? Milan is one of the biggest clubs in the world, everyone wants to play here.”
“It’s a difficult operation, we’ll see if we can talk to him.”
Ibrahimovic spent almost two years at Old Trafford between 2016 and 2018, winning the Europa League and Carabao Cup and was a key figure for United as Rashford began to establish himself as a first-team player.
New Milan head coach Sergio Conceicao also fueled the rumor mill last Friday and said of the England international when asked about a possible move: “Rashford is a good player like many others, some are on the market, some are not, sometimes see what happens.”
Rashford will not feature in United’s FA Cup game against Arsenal on Sunday, extending his absence from the final matchday squads.
