Manchester United have reportedly held initial talks over a future transfer for RB Salzburg striker Nene Dorgeles.
The Malian international moved to the top Austrian club from Guidars FC in his home country at the beginning of 2021. After three loans in two and a half years, the right-footed left winger began his path to the Salzburg first team.
After an adjustment season that still saw him score five goals in the top flight, Nene has established himself as an integral part of the first team this season. Salzburg have endured a miserable season together – which led to the quick resignation of coach Pep Lijnders in December – but Nene has already surpassed his goalscoring tally from last season.
The 22-year-old ended 2024 with five direct goal involvements in three league games and has now attracted interest from Manchester United Fabrizio Romano.
The Premier League club have reportedly put Nene on their transfer list – a move in January or next summer is both possible. There have already been discussions between the two clubs and there have been initial discussions about a transfer fee.
United’s future interest in Nene will be determined by Salzburg’s asking price. The first club in Red Bull’s football empire is now under the management of former Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp, who took over as Head of Global Soccer in January and has a long history of selling his young recruits.
Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai and former Reds striker Sadio Mane – to name just three – have all passed through the Austrian breeding ground before moving to the Premier League.
