Tottenham will view their north London rivals without any sympathy given the injury concerns they have faced this season.
While Arsenal’s season has stalled due to the long-term injuries suffered by first Martin Odegaard and now Bukayo Saka, Ange Postecoglou has been without a starting defense for much of the current campaign.
Spurs’ injuries have marred their Premier League campaign but they still retain a chance of winning the title in three cup competitions. The club’s poor performance in the league minimizes the pressure in Wednesday’s north London derby, but an away win at Arsenal would be a huge challenge for a manager who has yet to convince the entire Lilywhite fan base.
Tottenham’s injury situation has changed since the weekend and here’s the latest ahead of their trip to the Emirates.
Goalkeeper and defender
Guglielmo Vicario stormed back onto the training pitch after watching Antonin Kinsky show off his skills on his debut against Liverpool last week. The 21-year-old’s impressive start in north London will only increase Vicario’s desire to return from a broken ankle, which is expected to keep him out until next month.
Fraser Forster has missed the last few games due to illness and it remains to be seen whether he will be on the bench against Arsenal.
Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray are expected to continue to play as a pair at centre-back Cristian Romero And Micky van de Ven both took a break until the end of the month. Ben Davies is close to returning from a hamstring injury and could be included in the squad for Wednesday’s matchday.
Destiny Udogie has also succumbed to a hamstring injury and will return in mid-February.
midfielder
Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off in the opening game against Liverpool after a worrying sequence. The midfielder was put on a stretcher and taken to hospital. Postecoglou confirmed that Bentancur had suffered a concussion.
He was not involved in the weekend against Tamworth and will not feature at the Emirates as he adheres to the concussion protocol.
Yves Bissouma should remain at the base of the midfield after putting in some impressive performances to start 2025.
Forward
Richarlison was back in training at the beginning of the year and is now finally ready for the long-awaited comeback after his derby injury.
“[Richarlison] “I have been bothered for the last ten days, but we have been disciplined and he has done really well in training,” Postecoglou said on Tuesday. “He seems ready to go and very happy to have him back.”
The Brazilian has been out for months with a hamstring injury sustained in the 4-1 win against Aston Villa.
However, Tottenham seemingly lost Timo Werner to a thigh injury. The German struggled in Tamworth on Sunday but played 90 minutes before Spurs scored three goals in extra time. Spurs will await the results of his scan before making a diagnosis. However, he will not play on Wednesday.
Arrival in summer Wilson Odobert is away for a long period of time after thigh surgery and his return date is not yet known.
