Ange Postecoglou makes Tottenham transfer admission

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou revealed that Spurs were interested in a loan move act for Paris Saint-Germain’s wantaway striker Randal Kolo Muani, but stressed that a concrete move is never close.

The French striker was ruled out by PSG coach Luis Enrique at the end of last season. When it became clear that his immediate future would lie outside Paris, Kolo Muani was heavily linked with Manchester United and Tottenham.

However, Juventus appear to have won the race for the versatile striker, whose loan deal will be announced soon.

When Postecoglou was told that not having the striker would be a big loss, the Australian coach’s response was blunt: “No.”

The Spurs boss revealed there was interest in Kolo Muani but quickly retracted that admission. “We were in,” he told reporters Friday afternoon. “Well, it depends what you mean by ‘in’.

“We were interested and looking at a number of players, but have we got to the point where we thought he would come to us? No.”

Spurs sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table behind West Ham – a club that recently had to sack its manager – and Manchester United. Postecoglou has already welcomed goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky to north London this month but is keeping an eye on further additions during this difficult time.

“It is difficult, as all clubs are finding, and I appreciate that traditionally it increases in the last week, so we are getting closer to that target for all clubs,” explained the head coach.

“The club is working hard as best it can and that’s all you can ask for. January is not an easy month, but I know there is a lot of work being done behind the scenes to get reinforcements.”

“It’s not frustration. It would be frustration and disappointment if the club didn’t work hard, but they do. That’s easy to say, but I know how hard the club has worked behind the scenes to get something done, but it’s not easy.

“You need the approval of three different parties. Sometimes when you’re in our situation, other clubs recognize it and try to make the best of it.”
