Newcastle vs Bournemouth: Preview, predictions and lineups

Newcastle United will be looking to make history when they host Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime.

The Magpies secured their ninth consecutive win in all competitions after triumphing over Wolves on Wednesday. With three points against Bournemouth they set a new club record for consecutive wins. Chasing his own record, star striker Alexander Isak has now scored in eight consecutive league games, with Jamie Vardy’s 11-game goal streak the current standard.

After a mediocre start to the season, the Magpies are now firmly in contention for Champions League qualification and have moved up to fourth place in the table. After their resurgence they are ahead of Chelsea and Manchester City in the table.

However, Bournemouth will challenge their customers and are enjoying an impressive performance themselves. They are unbeaten in their last ten games in all competitions and know that victory at St James’ Park will take them within a single point of their Tyneside opponents, while Andoni Iraola continues to fight for the Cherries’ promotion despite relentless injuries .

Newcastle will be delighted to see Fabian Schar return this weekend after missing the win over Wolves due to illness. Jamaal Lascelles is also still out at centre-back, while Nick Pope remains out with a knee injury.

Injury-prone Harvey Barnes is back in the treatment room after suffering a hamstring injury in the weekend win over Bromley in the FA Cup. He is expected to be out of action for a month, while Callum Wilson is also unavailable with a hamstring injury.

Predicted line-up for Newcastle vs Bournemouth (4-3-3): Dubravka; Livramento, Botman, Schar, Hall; Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton; Murphy, Isaac, Gordon.

Andoni Iraola

Bournemouth are in an injury crisis and James Hill was admitted to the treatment room following his midweek trip to Chelsea. He joins fellow right-backs Julian Araujo and Adam Smith on the touchline, while Marcos Senesi is also missing from defence.

Alex Scott, Enes Unal and Evanilson are all long-term absentees, having each undergone surgery, although the former is close to a return. Marcus Tavernier and Luis Sinisterra are also out of action, leaving Iraola without any attacking options.

Expected line-up for Bournemouth vs Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Kepa; Cook, Zabarnyi, Huijsen, Kerkez; Christie, Adams; Brooks, Kluivert, Semenyo; Ouatarra.

With Newcastle in such remarkable form and Bournemouth plagued by injuries, Eddie Howe’s side should claim a record tenth successive win in all competitions. The Cherries fielded a bench made up almost entirely of youth players against Chelsea and their scrappy squad is likely to be on its last legs.

While Bournemouth have the ability to disrupt the Newcastle machine. The form of Isak, Anthony Gordon and the Magpies’ robust midfield should carry them to victory. After struggling to score at the start of the season, they have now scored two or more goals in their last 11 games and should score a few more come Saturday lunchtime.

Prediction: Newcastle 2-0 Bournemouth
