Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor refused to dwell on links with North Carolina Courage striker Kerolin in his recent media conference.
The former WSL winner quickly signed Rebecca Knaak from Swedish side FC Rosengard earlier this month, strengthening the defense to replace the injured Alex Greenwood.
Taylor also has problems in the forward area, including Khadija Shaw and Lauren Hemp. With injuries threatening to jeopardize their season, the City boss insists they are doing everything they can this month to ensure the team can remain competitive for the rest of the season.
“There is no update [on transfers]” Taylor told reporters before the Manchester derby. “It is really difficult to give you news while there are still many wheels whirring.
“We are working extremely hard behind the scenes to help and support the team a little more. Lose Alex [Greenwood]Lauren [Hemp] and rabbit [Shaw to injury]three really key players is tough for any team.
“We are trying to get the support we need, but we are in a difficult time. But there’s still a bit of time left.”
One of the names that has been linked in recent days is Brazilian international Kerolin. Earlier this week, it was confirmed by her former club North Carolina Courage that the 25-year-old is seeking free agency after her contract expires.
“It is difficult for me to comment on a player who is not officially part of us,” he said when asked about the Kerolin rumours. “At this moment I wouldn’t have to comment.
“I know there is a lot of speculation out there, but we like to do things right.”
Kerolin was named the NWSL’s MVP for 2023 but struggled with form last season due to injury issues. Several clubs, including Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, have reportedly shown interest in the player, but City appear to have completed a deal.
Asked what a potential move could mean for Chloe Kelly, whose contract expires in the summer, Taylor added: “We have a good history together. While she’s here, she’s just like any other player.”
“She is considered, she is valued and whether she plays or not, she is a part of what we do. It’s difficult for me to speculate about anything beyond that.”
