How Liverpool’s next five fixtures compare to Arsenal’s


Well, they did it late, but Liverpool secured their first Premier League win of 2025 against Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

Darwin Nunez’s stoppage-time brace secured a much-needed win for the Reds, who had managed just one league draw against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest at the start of the new year. Maximum points from their trip to west London ensured they avoided another slip-up in the race for top spot.

However, there will be little time to celebrate their trip to the capital as attention will immediately turn back to some challenging games ahead. With one eye on Arsenal hot on their heels, Liverpool can hardly afford complacency for the rest of January and beyond.

Here’s how Liverpool’s next five league games compare to those of rivals Arsenal.

The next five games for Liverpool may not be the most challenging on paper, but they can certainly provide a few surprises. The easiest of these seems to be their homecoming with fights Ipswich townwho will next compete in the Premier League after a Champions League guest appearance from Lille.

After their last meeting in the Champions League league phase with PSV Eindhoven, Liverpool makes the long journey to the south coast to face each other Bournemouth. The Reds have won their last two visits to the Vitality Stadium but suffered a frustrating defeat in March 2023 – Mohamed Salah failing from the penalty spot in a 1-0 defeat the week after Liverpool beat Manchester United 7-0.

The rearranged Merseyside derby is scheduled for Wednesday February 12, with the previous game postponed due to adverse weather conditions. A home game with Wolverhampton Wanderers would prove to be a relatively routine victory for Liverpool, but their subsequent journey to becoming reigning champions Manchester City promises to be significantly harder. The Cityzens are in incredibly inconsistent form but still have plenty of star quality, with Liverpool failing to win any of their last eight visits to the Etihad Stadium.

Sandwiched between Arsenal’s two remaining Champions League league phase games will be a trip to Wolves in the Premier League. The Gunners have won their last seven meetings with the Old Gold, including a 2-0 triumph at the Emirates Stadium on the opening day of the season.

However, things will be more difficult for Arsenal the following weekend as they are also preparing for a clash with Arsenal Man City. After a dramatic draw at the Etihad in September – 10-man Arsenal conceded a goal in the 98th minute – the Gunners are aiming for a confidence-boosting win against the struggling Cityzens.

Arsenal travel to the East Midlands after the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final. Confronting Ruud van Nistelrooy’s problems Leicester CityThe Gunners will be looking to extend their six-game winning streak against the Foxes.

Arsenal have scored 11 goals in their last two games against Arsenal West Ham United but they actually lost their last home game with the Irons last season. This defeat proved crucial in the fight for the Premier League title. Arsenal will be looking to avoid a similar upset as they face Liverpool in the title race this year.

The win against the Hammers is all the more significant considering it is a trip to the top Nottingham Forest follows. The Midlands side have been in exceptional form, picking up four points from meetings with Liverpool this season. They may have won 3-0 at the Emirates in November but the Gunners will face a much tougher task at the City Ground.
