Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou stressed that his belief in his project remains unshakable Sunday’s crushing defeat at Evertonbut admittedly new signings are crucial to turn things around.
A shocking first-half performance appeared to have put the final nail in Postecoglou’s coffin as Spurs fell 3-0 to the relegation-threatened Toffees, but a spirited second-half display left Postecoglou optimistic.
“If you look at the situation we are in, it will eventually dissipate,” Postecoglou said Sky Sports after the game. “I certainly hope and believe that it will be so.
“We will give ourselves the opportunity to achieve consistency in performance and results. I definitely haven’t lost faith or determination to turn things around and the players showed in the second half that they hadn’t either.”
Still, Postecoglou admitted his side’s ongoing battle with injuries – striker Dominic Solanke was the latest to be sidelined with a knee injury – should force Spurs to act before the transfer window closes.
“We’re pretty tense,” he said. “We literally had 11 players fit enough to start the game. “We didn’t have full control of our organization and Everton capitalized on that and paid the price.” Radu [Dragusin] had to be replaced due to the deep cuts and restructuring.
“There will be urgency [in the transfer market] But I don’t have to say it, everyone can see it. I have no problems with how the club is doing things, they are working hard and trying to find solutions. These players definitely need help and hopefully we can find a solution in the next ten days. It’s really difficult, we’re not the only ones on the market. The club is trying hard.
