Chelsea centre-back Wesley Fofana is back in individual training as he tries to recover from a hamstring injury Injury as quickly as possible.
Fofana was initially not worried about the injury he sustained in early December, but after a period of silence, Chelsea fans were left shocked by manager Enzo Maresca’s claim that the centre-back could be sidelined for the rest of the season.
That sparked a confused reaction from Fofana and led to further clarification from the coach, who admitted Fofana disagreed with the assessment of Chelsea’s medical staff.
The impetus for Fofana’s ambition to return before March was the Daily Mail He states that he is already back on the pitch and taking part in individual training sessions.
Fofana runs during practice and is on track to return before the end of the campaign, when he may have to fight to reclaim his starting spot from returning loanee Trevoh Chalobah.
Injuries are a growing concern for Maresca as she was without defender Levi Colwill and midfield pair Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia in the 3-1 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers. With Chelsea already short in midfield, there have been calls for the Blues to recall either Andrey Santos or Lesley Ugochukwu from their loan spells at Strasbourg and Southampton respectively.
The athlete Fernandez is expected to be out for “a few weeks at most”, but there are significant concerns about Lavia, who could be out for “much longer”.
Lavia has struggled terribly with injuries since joining Chelsea in 2023. He has only played 13 games for the Blues in all competitions and missed almost the entire season last season due to some fitness issues.
