Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick confirmed Liverpool will not recall their exciting young loanee Ben Doak this month.
The 19-year-old winger has impressed for the Championship side this season, establishing himself on the right wing of Carrick’s 4-2-3-1 system, directly contributing to nine league goals.
Doak attracted interest from numerous clubs earlier this month, with Crystal Palace reportedly making a £15million bid in their search for a replacement for Michael Olise. However, Liverpool valued the teenager at a hefty £30 million.
There was a risk that the Reds would recall Doak in January, six months earlier than expected, in order to sell him or retain his services in the first team. However, Carrick announced that the deadline for a return had passed.
“I’ve said all along that I’m calm!” The Middlesbrough boss laughed.
“Of course we’re really happy he’s here, but seriously, it wasn’t a big deal for us. He showed again tonight how dangerous he is and then scored a great goal. He can do a little more, come on.” on the inside of his left foot, because that’s something he can do well.
“He has this weapon and a unique threat. The way he plays the game, everyone has their own strengths, but the way Ben plays the game, he’s always in the game and always a threat. We are of course happy that he is staying.” He plays a big role here and he will continue to do so as long as he is here.
Ipswich Town and Bournemouth were also reportedly interested in the fleet-footed striker.
Arne Slot won’t be able to capitalize on the teenage phenom until next season at the earliest, if Mohamed Salah leaves the club on a free transfer this summer, then a place in Liverpool’s front line could become available.
