Ruben Amorim gives fresh verdict on Alejandro Garnacho’s Man Utd future

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim once again refused to rule anyone out departure for winger Alejandro Garnacho, who is still looking for his best role in the new team lineup.

Chelsea have been heavily linked with Garnacho for weeks, but that hasn’t stopped Amorim from giving the Argentina international a major role in his team, starting the 20-year-old in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Fulham stood.

It was hardly a standout performance from United’s strikers but when pressed on Garnacho after the game, Amorim admitted he was still trying to find a suitable role for him in his preferred formation.

“He’s improving in every part of the game: understanding when to defend,” Amorim said. “I’m trying to find the best position for him. Today he played a bit open, not so inside. We need people who can play one-on-one.”

Asked if he will still be a United player after the transfer window closes, Amorim added: “Nobody knows. Anything can happen.”

Amorim has made similar comments about Garnacho in the past, urging the young player to improve his game if he wants to retain a place in United’s starting lineup.

However, he has praised Garnacho for his response to being dropped in December alongside Marcus Rashford, whose exclusion from the team is ongoing.

Chelsea are actively looking for a new striker this week and are expected to increase their interest in Garnacho, while there have even been discussions about a swap deal that would see Christopher Nkunku sent to United in return.
