The head coach of Arsenal, Renee Slegers, called for the introduction of Var to the women’s game after a decisive penalty was responsible for her defeat against Chelsea at the weekend.
Arsenal said goodbye as well as the title of her women Super League (WSL) after a 1-0 defeat against the blues on Sunday at Stamford Bridge. The result was the first loss of the Slegers since the helmet and now she sees ten points in her London rivals.
In the 84th minute after Chelsea gave a penalty kick about Lauren James due to a foul by Kim Little over Lauren James, a close competition was decided. Gunner’s defender Katie McCabe was shown a red card in the middle of the upper because he supposedly directed abusive language on referee Emily Heaslip.
Guro riding buried the penalty with ease, but Arsenal fans immediately went to social media, claimed that little was in contact with the ball first.
After fame, Slegers called for the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in response to the increasing standards in the entire WSL.
“The missions are getting higher in women’s football,” she said. “I also think that it is important that the game is attractive for fans, and Var slows down the game and there are more breaks. But I think it will develop over time and I think we should have it.”
Slegers commented McCabe’s submissions and confirmed that it was “caused by a conversation between Katie [McCabe] and the referees “and that she hadn’t spoken to Katie” [McCabe] still”.
“I am very satisfied with the fact that the run has not lost the game as far as the game has not lost, and I think that says something about where we are as a team,” added Slegers. “I just think we played against a top team today and we played a very close game and one or the other would go. Could also have been a 0-0 game or a 1-1 game . I think we have a strong enough foundation.
“I think the players also think that. Yes, that happened, but that doesn’t define us. Of course I am very disappointed. I wanted to win today and I think we were close enough to get something out of the game, But now we have to go on.
“I think it was a top game in women’s ball.
“I think we sometimes play a really good football, and what was missing today were the goals. Today we created one or two good chances to score today and you won’t get much against Chelsea.”
