Chelsea has registered Cole Palmer, Trevoh Chalobah and New Signing Mathis Amougou for the Konferezliga’s knockout phases.
The blues decided to let Palmer out of his squad for the group phases, in the hope of compensating for his workload after a breakthrough of the first full year of the Premier League football with a place in England’s setup for Euro 2024.
Chelsea showed more than enough class to carry out the initial phase and collected a maximum of 18 points on the way to score 26 goals and only give five.
The competition was largely used by Enzo Maresca to give its marginal players in the regular minutes of the Premier League, whereby Christopher Nkunku was retained.
Chelsea has now given the opportunity to bring new players to the League squad conference – Axel Disasi, Renato Veiga, Carney Chukwuemeka, Cesare Casadei and Joao Felix are all outside after leaving the club – and Palmer is next to Chalobah, which is reminiscent were, remembered by a loan magic in January Crystal Palace and newcomers Amougou.
“We played some games without Cole, but Cole is something extra that you need,” said Maresca at the time of Palmer’s omission. “We also have to think a little to protect some players. You need that. There is a reason and I think Cole has to be protected.”
Although Palmer has been well looked after and does not have to suffer any injuries, this can not be said for Wesley Fofana and Romeo Lavia, who missed again after it has not been recorded in the first phase. The former has to struggle with various fitness problems after he started from Leicester City with a huge transfer of 70 million GBP, while the latter has damaged his knee tendon in the past two seasons on four different occasions.
Lavia spent six months outside of action last season and missed more than a dozen games this season – a double frustrating blow for Maresca when the Belgian looked a more capable partner for Moises Caicedo in the early exchange of the campaign.
Enzo Fernandez also spent time from the team, which could possibly lead to opportunities for amougou to play Saint-Etienne after his Deadline Day of £ 12.5 million.
