The trainer of Real Madrid Carlo Ancelotti has announced that he feels “more comfortable” with referees in the Champions League than in La Liga, in the middle of the club’s ongoing struggle around the domestic.
Madrid officially complained about the Spain’s Football Federation (RFEF) about referee standards in La Liga.
The 15-time Champions League winner was taken from a surprise in early February with 1-0 against Espanyol. And Madrid continued to feel hard when he followed the following games against Atletico Madrid and Osasuna.
In the latter game, Jude Bellingham was sent over what he claimed, a “misunderstanding” when he swears towards the referee and possibly exposed to a lengthy ban between four and 12 games. “We are not satisfied with what happened to Osasuna against Atletico and Espanyol. These are three games in which we were disadvantaged and I don’t understand. The mistakes in the last games were pretty clear,” he added.
Madrid will compete against Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday, with a place in the last 16 at the game. Romania in Istvan Kovacs will take over the game.
“I feel more comfortable with the referees in Europe,” commented Ancelotti.
“The statistics speak for themselves. There are far fewer interventions in Europe and they intervene if necessary. It must be taken into account that the best referees in every country normally act in the Champions League. In this sense, the quality is very high.”
