Luis Rubiales, the former President of the Royal Spanish Football Association, was found to have kissed Jenni Hermoso without the approval of the High Court in Madrid.
Rubiales was convicted of paying Hermoso a fine of over € 10,000 (£ 8,275) after kissing a prison sentence after the victory of Spain over England in the women’s finals.
The 47-year-old was also forced by Hermoso to consider the kiss as mutual mutual.
The controversy overshadowed a historical day for the Hermoso and Spain’s women’s national team as a whole, with the player admitted that the illegal incident “spoiled” one of the happiest days of her life.
Hermoso provided evidence on the first day of the court procedure and informed the High Court that she had never given approval to the kisses. In response, Rubiales said: “I am absolutely sure that she gave me her permission” before adding, “at that moment it was a bit completely spontaneous.”
Rubiales, who stepped down from his RFEF role in September 2023 after the assembly pressure, was also instructed not to go from Hermoso for a year and to have no contact with the player for the same period. The decision can make a appeal if Rubiales and his legal team want to take this path.
