Liverpool are 11 points at the head of the Premier League table after having hit a 2-0 goal line in the Premier League in Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai each achieved in the first half, and the city failed to largely worry visitors from Merseyside despite the dominated property and the shots.
City is so far from the pace – a full 20 points – that the Champions League of the next season is simply qualified is the real challenge for the rest of the season.
How the game unfolds
It was a cheesy start to the competition when both sides tried to gain a foothold. Early attacks showed a first promise that turned out before it became a real threat to every end.
Alisson dealt with a few uncomplicated city corners, with a set causing damage to Liverpool. Alexis Mac Allister’s low delivery to almost post initially looked like a miss kick, but it immediately became clear that it was an intentional passport for Szoboszlai. Salah found his film behind him, whose strike in the middle of the box benefited from a helpful distraction of Ederson.
The goal was not really used to ignite the competition. Alisson gathered comfortably attempts that are from Omar Marmoush and Phil Foden from the box. Marmoush then had the ball on the net, a fine depth over Liverpool’s goalkeeper, but he was clearly offside and the flag rose.
The red played it perfectly and then built up on their lead in the final phases of the first half. It was another simple but well -executed movement where Salah was lying to the right on a long ball. He drove into a dangerous position and then sat on a non -marked Szoboszlai to blow in.
Liverpool was happy to control the ball in the knowledge that the chances of countering would come. In this regard, the hosts made several attacks in the early stages of the second half without the visitors being online for the third time. Curtis Jones turned the finish, but Var intervened after caught Szoboszlai away from the structure.
City reacted to this exhaustion by taking Alisson in action and contembling Marmoush, while a spectacular Ederson soon saved from a curl by Luis Diaz. Virgil van Dijk had to be vigilant to cut off a cut on a record for Marmoush, Rico Lewis fired the rebound into the side networks.
Since City still urged to come back into the game.
Liverpool has reduced points twice against Everton and Aston Villa in the past few weeks, which could have been the possibility that the chase had to be chased for closing the gap.
But Arsenals own fights, Chelsea and Manchester City, and Nottingham Forest’s most recent inconsistency has not happened.
Liverpool played one more game more than the others and prevented the villa.
This would be number 20 in total and moves the red level with English record holders Manchester United, who don’t look as if they soon switch to 21.
Mohamed Salah scored 30 goals for the fifth time as a Liverpool player in one season after he was only eight o’clock. It is a remarkable consistency at the highest level, especially someone who was previously written off as Premier League Flop at Chelsea.
With 241 Liverpool goals for his name overall since 2017, Salah has now been third in the club’s list with Gordon Hodgson. Only Roger Hunt (285) and Ian Rush (346) have now increased more often in the history of Liverpool. Rush’s record is probably certain, but Salah could probably appear in Hunt by the end of next season – if he can agree to a new contract.
Salah’s passport for Dominik Szoboszlai took over his Premier League Assist Tally for the season to 16. These are only four shy of the 20 season record of 20, together by Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne. The Egyptian king of Liverpool needs five more templates in 11 remaining games to break him, and in the current form it is difficult to believe that this will not happen.
After the knocking last weekend, Erling Haaland was missing again in the City line -up last weekend, without doing the bank this time because of a lack of game fitness.
City has no other similar “number nine” striker, with January to sign Omar Marmoush, who does his best work as an inside striker in the left channel.
In this case, Phil Foden was advanced as “false nine”, with Marmoush supporting a little deeper and the freedom left, where he falls the most comfortable, let it move to the left.
There is no other Haaland and no other city is missing a focus if it does not play. Changing the system was the only way to do it and did not deliver the result.
The average age of Pep Guardiola’s start XI was 25 years and 68 days, the common side that he has ever named in a Premier League game. This is even with Kevin de Bruyne (33), Ederson (31).
The new generation of City is not as polished as the veterans who have delivered four consecutive Premier League titles. Jeremy Doku would have driven Trent Alexander-Arnold for breakfast here for breakfast. Savinho is in a similar boat, and the 20-year-old Abdukodir Khusanov is not ready to be thrown in at the deep end.
De Bruyne reaches the end of the street in the city. The Belgian served the club incredibly, but he was excluded from the start -xi against Real Madrid during the week and was the first player Pep Guardiola when there was enough time for his team to do something.
