Julian Alvarez admitted his decision leave Manchester City was triggered by his limited role in the Champions League profit campaign 2022/23.
City defeated Intered in the final this year, but Alvarez did not see during the game. He did not use the bench how he was in the semi -finals in the semi -finals against Real Madrid. The second leg against Los Blancos only resulted in a minute in which he was still scoring a goal.
After 12 more months, which Erling Haaland operated largely as a backup, Alvarez took his talents elsewhere and in August 2024 sealed a change of £ 81 million to Atletico Madrid.
“The truth is that this city has trusted me since I arrived,” said Alvarez Info. “They brought me from the river to Europe. I played a lot of games, scored a lot of goals, we won titles. It was perfect.
“And if I had stayed there, I would also have felt comfortable. I always said that I was very grateful to the club, but I needed something. Something in me told me that I needed another challenge to look for something new that was not motivation, because I will keep going for more, but something I don’t know.
“I want to play the most important games. As I said, I don’t know that I didn’t get on in the Champions League final. I didn’t play much in the semifinals, and I would have liked to play in such games. And with what I said before, I thought about a change.”
Alvarez left the city with a return of 36 goals and 17 templates in 103 appearances. While 61 of them came at the beginning, the majority of his chances came when Haaland either injured or rested, the competition before him was so intense that Pep Guardiola even decided to use him in midfield.
Since Alvarez moved to Spain, he has already scored 20 goals and has closed an excellent partnership with Antoine Griezmann at Diego Simeone’s attack.
