Former Saudi Professional League Slaven Bilic claimed that Mohamed Salah’s move to Al Ittihad was “finished” last summer after Liverpool striker with former manager Jürgen Klopp.
Ultimately, Salah stayed on Merseyside, but the speculation about his future has never gone. If at all, the rumor mill has only collected speed when the striker sneaks towards a summer of free agency.
The conversations about a new deal for Salah have not yet been completed, although not as quickly as the player wants. The demand to give the 32-year-old an extension of the contract increases with every overturned record. The productive striker was not quite as strong last season – although he still scored 25 goals in all competitions – and especially during a 2-2 draw with West Ham United at the end of April 2024 with Klopp on the sidelines.
Arne Slot, the German summer replacement of the German in the Anfield Unit, did nothing but lavish praise on his talisman striker. “This season there was definitely a change in Arne Slot,” said the former Al Fateh coach Bilic Talk sport. “After being in Saudi Arabia last year, I know that he was not happy under Jürgen Klopp and we expected to change.
“The whole Saudi was ready for him – and he would have been the star of the league. For us it was done and Mo Salah would join Al Ittihad.”
The connections between Salah and Saudi are nothing new. At the end of August 2023, Al Ittihad fans were seen
Despite her repeated failures to grab the Egyptian superstar, Bilic was confident that the Saudi Pro League had not given up hope. “I was not surprised that he didn’t move,” said the former West Ham boss. “He knows that the move is there for him if he wants to leave Liverpool. It is not a one -year take it.
Al Ittihad are not the only interested person. The reigning master Al Hilal was also strongly connected. Manager Jorge Jesus publicly emphasized his wish to sign Salah as a replacement for the outgoing Neymar.
